We want to create an outstanding new place. We have organised the development
to create opportunities for high quality buildings on all the faces
of the site, and develop a new landscaped open space at the heart
of the development.
We want the buildings to be appropriate to the setting in terms
of their scale and height, and take inspiration from local building
designs and traditions, while also ensuring the development is modern
and forward looking. We want to encourage the best and most creative
designers to realise our plans.
We propose that the development will also include
greens and gardens throughout the scheme, creating private and tranquil
areas for the enjoyment of those working and living on the site.
We will also plant street trees and use high quality materials for
the urban spaces.
We aim to make the site sustainable and to incorporate environmental
measures including passive solar design, local energy generation,
water conservation and possibly green roofs.
The junction of Barton Way and Queens Road West will be improved
with new crossings and signal controls. Our transport proposals will
reduce the need to use private cars. We propose a car club and bike
stands and facilities, and will encourage new businesses to reduce
car use.
